New Videos in the Degrowth Video Series

Michael Harcourt, Chair of Quality Urban Energy Systems of Tomorrow (QUEST), and Seth Klein, BC Director at the Canadian Centre for Policy Alternatives, were the final two presenters on a panel of four put together for our March workshop on rethinking growth and prosperity, De-growth: A Critical Juncture?. Harcourt discusses how, in the face of rapid population growth, developing urban spaces in a manner that creates a liveable and sustainable environment for city residents is vital and, in fact, presents a massive economic opportunity.

New Case Study Published!

A new case study on workplace sustainability programs (WSP) has just been released.  This study investigates whether adopting pro-environmental behaviours (PEB) in workplaces can lead to employees integrating these behaviours in their personal lives. The study provides an in-depth review of the WSPs of four companies based in Victoria, BC: AbeBooks, Advanced Solutions, Archipelago Marine Research, and Smart Dolphins IT Solutions.

New Video Release - Second panelist video of the CRC De-growth Series

Kathy Bardswick, President and Chief Executive Officer of the Co-operators Group Limited, was the second of four presenters on the panel put together for our March workshop on rethinking growth and prosperity, De-growth: A Critical Juncture?. Bardswick discusses how our societies have shifted from developing the systems that support us based on the "why", or reasons for developing these systems, to basing these systems on the "how" and "what", the products.

Dr. Peter Victor, Professor at York University, was the first of four presenters on the panel put together for our March workshop on rethinking growth and prosperity, De-growth: A Critical Juncture?. Dr. Victor discusses the historical perspectives on growth and how concerns of humans pushing the capacity of the planet have been raised throughout the 20th century.

Case Study on Pacific Carbon Trust

A new case study on Pacific Carbon Trust (PCT) has been released.  PCT is an innovative policy instrument developed by the British Columbia government to address climate change. This hybrid instrument blends a market mechanism with public investment and regulation as part of the government’s commitment to mitigate greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions. The model is designed to help establish a local carbon offset market as part of a larger framework that regulates carbon neutrality in the public sector to reduce GHG emissions while influencing cultural norms and behaviour.
