Policy Documents

An objective of CRC is to make a difference through research and to contribute to more evidence-based policy-making, particularly in the field of sustainable community development. Through research and idea-sharing workshops and dialogues, CRC produces policy documents for distributing to community leaders and decision-makers in effort to guide communities and society on a path to sustainability. Biodiversity Conservation: A call for action for Canadian decision-makers Co-authored by Women for Nature, this 24-point policy agenda it suggests new strategies for informing Canadians about nature: designing cities with natural connections and using new technology and the arts to talk about protecting lands, waters and wildlife. It also includes bold asks for policymakers, like the creation of new protected areas, more partnerships with Indigenous Peoples and enforcement of species at risk legislation.

 

A Policy Agenda for Canadian Municipalities This Policy Agenda provides for the implementation of sustainable development at the municipal level in a systematic, concrete, and step-wise fashion.

 

An Action Agenda for Rethinking Growth and Prosperity This Action Agenda has been developed to assist Canadian decision-makers to move towards new economic models that measure human well-being while significantly reducing environmental risks and ecological scarcities.

 

Climate Change Adaptation and Mitigation: An Action Agenda for BC Decision-Makers This Agenda is based on the research outcomes of the Meeting the Climate Change Challenge (MC3) and provides 10 recommendations on how to stimulate more community innovation and implementation of climate change adaptation and mitigation.

 

Acting on Climate Change: Solutions from Canadian Scholars A scholarly consensus on science-based, viable solutions for greenhouse gas reduction. Produced by Sustainable Canada Dialogues, an initiative under the UNESCO–McGill Chair for Dialogues on Sustainability and the Trottier Institute for Science and Public Policy. Sustainable Canada Dialogues has mobilized over 60 Canadian scholars from every province, representing climate change expertise in areas from engineering to sociology.

 

The Solutions Agenda: A Call to Action for and by Canadians This agenda includes the key issues facing Canadian communities, and also substantive solutions to these issues with an action agenda arranged under seven thematic imperatives.
