Redesign of the Built Environment

Another note from New York City: Vision42Design is a cool competition that challenges designers and architects to put forth a hugely ambitious and wildly interesting conceptual plan that dares to imagine 42nd street with no cars in sight. They are after a sustainable, world-class pedestrian environment and public space that is served by a high-quality, low-floor, modern surface light rail tram. After 200 entries, the finalists are highlighted in this article that shows some emerging concepts. So much can be accomplished by both design and more critically, re-design of the built environment for more sustainable futures.
