Could this be our new urban farm?

Imagine it, you walk into the grocery store go into the produce section and then you pick your veggies right from the plant. This idea may not be very far away. I stumbled upon a new grocery store concept called Agropolis: it combines hydroponic, aeroponic and aquaponic farming to grow vegetables without soil in an urban environment.

Harvest Produce at the Grocery Store

Can this be the new model for urban farmers? I am not totally convinced that you can replace all of the bacteria and nutrients contained in the soil and the energy received from the sun by artificial means. As it stands right now I am sceptical of this concept. It seems to me that there is a lot dead space (i.e. parking lots, vacant lots and rooftops) within our cities that could be used to grow vegetables in a more traditional fashion. What do you think?
