Britain's referendum may have delivered a win to those wishing to leave the European Union but it poses a threat to progress on climate change mitigation. Short-term emission reductions due to the looming Brexit recession are possible, but the political fallout is expected to overshadow regional and international collaboration. Moreover, the hard-won Paris Climate Agreement will need to be rewritten, as a result. In times such as these, when we desperately need international cooperation, this referendum pulls us toward the wrong direction.
