The Rainbow Bridge

I have been rather silent lately, as I lost a cherished friend on Wednesday, November 7, 2012, our beloved older dog, Yazar. As an academic I often wonder about the fine line between my professional and personal lives, and hesitate to write anything about the latter.

He was a big dog, one of the gentle giants, with such a stable personality. I only knew him 4 and a half years, knew I loved him and that he loved me, but I never knew how much of a friend he was. Some people and now I know, some animals, have such a huge presence, that they leave a gaping hole physically, emotionally and spiritually. It doesn’t matter how much time you have had with a special being, it is the timbre and quality of your relationship that determines the ebb and flow of your grief, and if you are open to life and love, it extends beyond your own species. And, every grief brings back memories of other losses.

I have always found it hard to write when my heart is broken, and with his leaving, there is a huge hole. See you at the Rainbow Bridge, my friend.
