Leonard Cohen Strikes a Chord with Al Gore

Watch below for an interview with Leonard Cohen from Norwegian talk show Skavlan in 2007. Cohen sits with singer Anjani Thomas, as well as Al Gore.

On the topic of the environment, Cohen states that “it’s only catastrophe that encourages people to make a change,” and that “the real weapons of mass destruction are the hardened hearts of humanity.” Al Gore, speaking only near the end, disagrees that catastrophe is the only catalyst of change, naming hope as the “only way” this time, since we cannot wait for the catastrophe.

Over on MC3, we discuss this topic with a mind-map of the behaviour changes specific to combating climate change. These best methods for creating behavioural change--softening the hearts, as Cohen put it--are put into practise in our research and field work.
