Another Environmental Star Leaves

I am feeling very sad this morning at the news that Jim MacNeil has died. He was one of my mentors when we were creating the National Round Table on the Environment and the Economy and he served as one of our founding members for two years. He never failed to speak truth to power, and he taught me a lot about the meaning of integrity and intellectual rigour. He was the chief architect behind the seminal document, Our Common Future, which kickstarted the sustainable development narrative in Canada in 1986, only one of his many many contributions to the future of our country. Some people when they are on Earth occupy only the space of a tree, but when they leave, they leave the space of a forest.
