Three Trolls Under the Bridge

This article details the results of a 2016 poll by the Harvard Institute of Politics that found just 19% of Americans aged 18 to 29 identified themselves as capitalists; only 42% claimed they support the economic system. Another Harvard poll, released on December 5th, revealed that two-thirds of the same age group is fearful for the future of the country and just 14% think we’re headed in the right direction” (Fast Company).

In Chapter 6 of my new book entitled, Three Trolls Under the Bridge: Barriers to Change, I question the current economic system. I ask why we have only one dominant economic model that has taken over the world. Are there other models out there that are more sustainable? And what is progress when your salary keeps increasing, but you can’t afford to buy a house in Vancouver or Toronto? Ultimately, this chapter challenges the underlying assumption that it is possible to continue to grow the economy in a finite biosphere.
