Three Steps Forward?

And a high profile task force, chaired by Michael Bloomberg, has just recommended that the global private sector do more to disclose the risks climate change pose to their businesses, and what they’re doing to adapt. Read more about the work of this task force here.

And change is definitely in the wind. On Monday, investors worth over $5 trillion have now committed to dump their fossil fuel stocks, and over 80% of that is professional funds run for profit.

And private sector leadership continues. Bill Gates is leading a $1 billion fund,  Breakthrough Energy Ventures, son, along with Sir Richard Branson, Amazon founder Jeff Bezos and Alibaba’s founder Jack Ma, to invest in green energy. “Our goal is to build companies that will help to deliver the next generation of reliable, affordable, and emissions-free energy to the world,” Gates said during their announcement on Monday.

The world desperately needs this momentum as new evidence mounts that we need to act now on many, many fronts. This is our generation’s world war.
