In our community vitality project, we developed 6 indicators of vitality for a neighbourhood, community or perhaps a country. One of these indicators is deadspace.

This interview with Michael Green, a Vancouver architect talks about the beauty of using wood, and engineered wood. Since production of concrete and steel contribute 10% of the world’s GHG emissions and have a large ecological footprint, then doesn’t it make sense to build with certified wood? There is something alive about a building that has a lot of wood, the opposite of dead space, a vibrant living space.
