Climate Action

Rachel Notley just released Alberta’s climate strategy putting a price on carbon that is revenue neutral, following the lead of British Columbia’s carbon tax. Two-thirds of coal-generated electricity will be replaced by renewables—primarily wind power—and a cap on oil sands emissions to name only two initiatives. For anyone wanting to know more about the history of global CO2 emissions, this is an interesting read, which makes aggressive committed targets even more important at COP 21 in Paris, starting in another week. This is especially important for Canadians as it appears climate change is the biggest single threat to one of our national icons, the polar bear to name only one loss, never mind that a record-crushing October keeps Earth on track for hottest year in 2015.
