Leonardo Dicaprio continues to be a leader in the fight against climate change. He announced his plans to distribute grants totalling 15 million dollars to several organizations to aid initiatives protecting oceans, rainforests and that bring greater international awareness to the effects of carbon emissions. He has been effectively using his celebrity status, his foundation, and his new role as the UN Messenger of Peace for Climate Change, to communicate his personal interest in the rights of indigenous peoples, and to champion environmental causes that are near and dear to his heart. His speech accepting his award at the world forum in Davos, echoes what many voices are saying: that we must not allow the greed of a few dictate the future of the many. We have the technology, the ability and the passion required to make tangible, a sustainable, emission-free future for all now.
