Many recycling and composting programs in Canada have been unable to achieve waste reduction targets, and the per capita volume of waste continues to increase in all provinces except Nova Scotia. This recent case study release examines an innovative, comprehensive, and province-wide waste management strategy in Nova Scotia, and addresses the question: how effective are recycling and composting programs for achieving sustainable waste management strategies?
