New MC3 Case Synopsis Released: Carbon Neutral Kootenays

A new Meeting the Climate Change Challenge (MC3) case study synopsis has been released, featuring Carbon Neutral Kootenays (CNK), an initiative involving collaboration of communities throughout the Kootenays region of British Columbia.

CNK began in 2008, when the Regional Districts of Central Kootenay, East Kootenay, and Kootenay Boundary connected with the Columbia Basin Trust to collaboratively prepare a carbon neutral action strategy. The key driver of this innovation was to strategically respond to the goals of the Climate Action Charter and to create coherence among the diverse regional, local and First Nation governments in the Kootenay Region. The specific model for the regional offset strategy is still being configured; however, the general concept is to generate regional commitment toward reducing energy consumption and emissions while also building a green economy.
