Urgent Action Needed

With the next G7 meeting scheduled for June, science academies from each nation have collectively released three priority areas requiring urgent action: climate change, biodiversity loss, and data accessibility and sharing during global health emergencies. The academies' recommendations are underscored with lessons learned from COVID-19. This includes the need for international cooperation and collaboration to tackle climate change and biodiversity loss and the critical role of assessable data to solve complex and global problems. Currently, the geographic gaps in biodiversity data are hindering our ability to understand the breadth of biodiversity loss and determine the correct course of action. The recommendations have been shared with the G7 nations, but traction within government agencies and science academies isn't enough. What is needed to carry these recommendations into policy is public awareness and support.
