I haven’t written about the Good Society for a long time but as I read about the need for more air conditioning to respond to the increasing heat being experienced in different ways worldwide, I feel the need to talk again about a regenerative society. Why regeneration, because regeneration concentrates on net positive benefits, and heat pumps are one solution. Heat pumps save energy costs and provide both heating and cooling energy to households while at the same time not contributing to GHG emissions, a win-win scenario.
Many people are reluctant to incur the costs and those with lower incomes or renting are excluded. There is a simple solution, however, if our governments were serious about mitigating and adapting to climate change. They should negotiate with the banks, whom along with the oil and gas sector, are reaping great profits, to provide interest free loans for the purchase of heat pumps. In a Good Society, corporate sectors contribute to the well-being of society instead of continuing to invest in oil and gas companies who are inhibiting the energy revolution that is too slowly evolving, given our increasing wildfires, drought, and augmenting heat.

Start lobbying your governments to provide incentives for the rapid acceleration of heat pumps across the country and while they’re at it, to remove the disincentives for the installation of balcony solar panels.
