GATINEAU BIOFUEL COMPANY MAKES HISTORY
Agrisoma Biosciences Inc., a smaller Canadian biofuel company in Gatineau, Que., quietly made history in February after their new sustainable jet fuel was used during a Qantas flight from the US to Australia. Developed from an oilseed crop called carinata, it is now certified as a sustainable biofuel—the first to be certified sustainable by the Roundtable on Sustainable Biofuels (RSB). This new biofuel source produces 77% lower carbon emissions than conventional fossil fuels used in the jet industry. Agrisoma has partnered with the Australian airline as both companies are committed to sustainability and a reduced carbon footprint. This is a clear example of how transdisciplinary research and collaboration can help find innovative solutions for our modern-day challenges.
