Biodiversity is the library of life. It is the diversity of species living in an area and the relationships they have with one another. Diversity ensures resilience and the ability to adapt in the face of hardship, pressure and change. While biodiversity is currently facing unprecedented loss, its systems can act as a model for diverse and more resilient human societies. However, humans naturally gravitate towards homophily, which simply means ‘like prefers like’. Building a sustainable world of vibrant ecosystems, healthy societies, with just and rewarding economies is almost entirely dependent on our ability to embrace diversity in all its forms.
