A Personal Note

I had the privilege of participating in a celebration of life for Maurice Strong two weeks ago in Ottawa. Maurice had helped me out of a political situation over twenty years ago, which subsequently put me on my academic path. Three days ago I learned that a friend and former professor of mine had died, Dr. Jim MacKenzie. He also played a formidable role in shaping my mind. What has surprised me, particularly about Jim, is how little I knew about him, he was such a keen intellect when I was a student, that I was a little intimitated by him. What a remarkable life, both men led, their accomplishments, while at the same time, they influenced and helped so many individuals.

Once again, I am reminded of how critical relationships are, but really, how very little we know of one another. How many missed opportunities, how many conversations not dared.
