The Good Society--A New Model of Incorporation

As mentioned before, I am hoping to share as many social innovations as possible to show how easy it is to implement sustainable development, using creativity and integration. I am hoping that 2013 will be about unprecedented adoption of new innovations, particularly, new governance models, for sustainable development. At a breakfast meeting in Toronto recently with colleagues from the Canadian Association of Management Consultants (CMC), and specifically with the CMC’s Canada Energy and Climate Change Special Interest Group, I learned about a novel concept, B-corporations. There are now 52 corporations certified in Canada, that are certified based on an evaluation of their impacts on investors, on society and community, on the environment. Maybe capitalism is evolving from a shareholder to a stakeholder model, with a clear map of their social obligations and greater transparency. B-Lab does the certification, check out whether incorporating as a benefit corporation really makes a difference?
