What would I do without the CBC! They just announced that Canada has invested 11 B in renewable energy resources in 2014. Ontario led the way, followed by Quebec and British Columbia. Canadian renewable electricity generation capacity grew to 89 GigaWatts, making Canada fourth in the world in generation of clean electricity. Canadian utilities have shut down about 4,600 MegaWatts of coal capacity in the last five years, but about 9,700 megawatts still remain. Employment in the clean energy industry grew to 26,900 jobs in 2013, the most recent year with figures available.
This trend is consistent with the Sustainable Canada Dialogues report, Acting on Climate Change: Solutions from Canadian Scholars and our recently released Solutions Agenda. On the pathway to a carbon neutral economy by 2050.
