The Blame Game

This article in the National Post points out some of the complexities of reducing GHG emissions and some of the ironic aspects of blaming others rather than everyone acting now. It is interesting that the article then ends with blaming high-profile climate activists for their personal uses—we do live in a world of less civility and more blaming and shaming. More sustainable ways of living and choices are highly dependent upon the infrastructure that supports us.

This article from Nature Communications points out that our current fossil fuel infrastructure does not yet commit us to 1.5 degrees C warming, and yet there is hope. If carbon-intensive infrastructure is phased out at the end of its design lifetime from the end of 2018, there is a 65% change that peak global means temperature rise remains below 1.5 degrees C.

With an upcoming federal election looming, let’s demand of all political candidates that they immediately legislate this critical change. CARPE DIEM.
