Sister of ocean and sand, sister of ice and snow

Two islanders living over 10,000 kilometres apart set out on an extraordinary poetic expedition through Greenland. What brought them together was the shared effects of climate change. Aka Niviâna is from Kalaallit Nunaat, Greenland, whose traditional way of life is threatened by melting ice sheets. This meltwater is subsequently drowning Kathy Jetñil-Kijiner’s home, the Marshall Islands. The rapid destruction of both their homelands is inextricably connected, which is why they are raising their voices in calling for a fossil free world. Set amongst the breathtaking fjords and glaciers of Greenland, Niviâna and Jetñil-Kijiner recite a collaborative poem overtop weighty notes of cello and violin.
