Acting on Climate Change

Teenage climate-activist, Greta Thunberg, has joined forces with British indie-pop-rock band, the 1975. As the first track on their new album, Notes on a Conditional Form, this somewhat unusual collaboration aims at getting more people from “all branches of society” involved. Speaking over gentle, ambient piano with occasional hints of synth and sax, Greta calls for mass civil disobedience to force action on climate change. The 1975 describe music as having “the power to break through barriers" and suggest that "we really need to break through some barriers if we are to face this emergency.” All proceeds from the song will go to Extinction Rebellion, a non-violent environmental activist group popping up across the world.

"So, I ask you to please wake up and make the changes required possible. To do your best is no longer good enough. We must all do the seemingly impossible….So, we can no longer save the world by playing by the rules. Because the rules have to be changed. Everything needs to change. And it has to start today. So, everyone out there, it is now time for civil disobedience."
