Introduction NWMO Assessment Framework  Part 2 e-Dialogue (1,2,3,4) (pdf's)

RRUWelcome to this second in our series of real-time e-Dialogues looking at the management of used nuclear fuel in Canada, moderated by Dr. Ann Dale, Canada Research Chair, Royal Roads University and co-moderated by Nancy Averill, Director of Research, Public Policy Forum; Dr. Lenore Newman, Post-Doctoral Fellow, Canada Research Chair on Sustainable Community Development; Jamie Doyle, Senior Project Manager, Jacques Whitford Environment Ltd, and former employee, AECL; and Doug Seeley, Professor, Science, Environment and Technology Division, Royal Roads University.

This discussion involves four e-round tables of young people from across the country who have been asked to apply the decision making framework developed by NWMO on the three options currently under consideration:

·         storage at reactor sites;

·        centralized storage, and

·        deep geological storage.

Our e-round tables have been asked to consider the following questions in their dialogue.

  1. Is the assessment framework comprehensive and balanced? Are there gaps, and if so, what do we need to add?
  2. Are there specific elements that you feel must be built into an implementation plan? What are your thoughts on what a phased approach much include.

You can also ensure your own voice is heard by participating in our on-line asynchronous public forum which will open for the month of July to see if the published NWMO draft study report reflects your ideas and concerns.

The views represented here do not necessarily reflect the views of the Nuclear Waste Management Organization or of Royal Roads University.
