Global Climate Leadership

The climate change agreement between the United States and China is a critical first step in breaking the gridlock that has stymied action globally.  Previous inaction has caused us to become cautious and cynical when it comes to the our governments and the promises they make. However, we should ask ourselves why there was so much focus put on the possible pitfalls and/or negative and disappointing outcomes, when the crux of the matter is that two of the world’s leading powers have acknowledged and begun to address climate change action. This historic agreement contains some very practical and obtainable long term goals. In order to expect more from our elected leaders when it comes to global political action on climate change, let's celebrate their leadership and even courage to act, to step up and be counted.
